Hōhin Teapot by Futaba Yukihisa

€46.25

A handleless hōhin from Hagi potter Futaba Yukihisa, known for his rugged Oni-Hagi style. Soft blush-pink glaze drifts into misty grey clouds, while coarse grains in the clay break through the surface as tiny red and dark speckles, like petals scattered on snow.

The body is gently pinched and asymmetric, sitting on an unglazed foot that shows the warm, raw Hagi clay. The knobbed lid sits snugly, and the integrated spout makes pouring easy with one hand.

Made for delicate Japanese teas such as gyokuro and sencha, which are best brewed at lower temperatures where a handle isn't needed. Like all Hagi-yaki, the fine crackle in the glaze will slowly absorb tea over time, deepening the colour – what Hagi lovers call nanabake, the "seven transformations."
