Mug or cup by Koga Kenji

A handbuilt mug from Karatsu, one of Japan's oldest and most revered pottery traditions, dating back over 400 years. Koga Kenji's work captures the wabi-sabi spirit central to Karatsu ware — irregular form, a thick chalky white glaze pooling over a dark iron-rich clay body, and an unglazed foot that reveals the raw stoneware beneath.

The glaze break where white meets a mottled bronze-green creates a landscape-like effect, no two pieces are ever quite alike. The rustic, textured handle is left partially unglazed, showing the artist's hand in every ridge and fingerprint.
