Sake Cup / Small Dish – Indigo Speckle

A small, wide-mouthed Hagi-yaki cup with a deep indigo glaze scattered with cream-white speckles, like a night sky. Patches of bare, dark clay are left unglazed across the surface, and the glaze drips softly toward the foot, so each piece shows the hand of the maker and the character of the kiln.

Its open, conical shape makes it a versatile piece: use it as a guinomi for sake, or as a small dish for pickles, sauces, salt, or a few sweets alongside tea. Like all Hagi-yaki, it slowly changes with use as the glaze absorbs moisture over time, a quality known as Hagi no nanabake, the "seven transformations of Hagi."
