Tea Cup by Shibuya Deishi

€32.75

A tea cup from the Hagi kilns of Yamaguchi, made by Shibuya Deishi, who studied under Living National Treasure Kyusetsu Miwa X and became Chairman of the Hagi Traditional Craft Association in 1990.

The cup is wheel-thrown with a gently flared body and a rounded rim. A soft lavender-pink glaze covers the upper half and the interior. Below it, a pale straw-ash glaze pools over the clay in misty blue-grey tones and is scattered with small iron spots. He is best known for his straw ash glazed chawan, which tea enthusiasts prize. The cup rests on a notched, unglazed foot (wari-kōdai) that shows the warm sandy clay.

Soak the cup in water before its first use. Rinse by hand and let it dry fully before you put it away.

Not suitable for dishwasher, oven and microwave
