Tobikanna Suribachi — Koishiwara Ware
€22.75
A traditional grinding bowl (suribachi) from Koishiwara, Japan's storied pottery village near Fukuoka, famed for its tobikanna ("flying blade") technique — a springy metal tool bounced against the turning clay to leave the rhythmic chattered pattern seen around the rim. The interior is combed with fine ridges (kushime), essential for grinding sesame, miso, or herbs, and finished in a rich amber-to-black kaki glaze that pools into deep browns. A small thumb-rest spout aids pouring.
Ideal for making goma-dofu, grinding toasted sesame for dressings, or mixing miso — as much a functional kitchen tool as a piece of folk-craft (mingei) pottery.
Not suitable for the dishwasher, oven and microwave
