Yunomi by Douzen Tsuchitani

Another hand-thrown piece from Douzen Tsuchitani, glazed using natural wood and leaf ash rather than mineral pigments. As the ash melts in the kiln, it reacts with the clay to produce this moody, moss-toned surface — earthy olive and taupe tones broken by pale blue-grey drips that cascade unevenly down the walls where the ash pooled and ran. Tiny white flecks fleck the surface, remnants of the ash itself, and the rim opens into a deep indigo-blue interior. Because the pattern comes from nature’s own unpredictable chemistry rather than an applied design, no two pieces are ever alike — this one is entirely its own.
