Yunomi or teacup by Yamane Seigan

A small, hand-thrown teacup by Yamane Seigan, who began researching Ao Hagi glazes around 1992 and brought shining blues into the traditional world of Hagi ware.

The glaze pools deep teal in the well and softens to turquoise on the walls, scattered with fine iron speckles from the clay. Throwing rings spiral gently inside, and at the rim the glaze thins to a warm brown edge. The unglazed foot shows the pale Hagi clay beneath.

Rounded and comfortable in two hands, it suits sencha, hojicha, or a small serving of matcha.
